The case study explores opportunities for, and challenges to, the advancement of women’s rights in three provinces of Afghanistan, including Balkh (Mazar-e Sharif), Herat (Herat City), and Kabul (Kabul City), specifically through their presence and participation in government. This research highlights pivotal questions regarding the quality and impact of such participation and makes a series of recommendations to strengthen the presence and roles of women in government.
